Bernardo was diagnosed in November 2006 with
Hodgkins Lymphoma. A patient at CHOC, underwent
chemotherapy three times per week on an
outpatient basis at CHOC’s Cancer Clinic.
Bernardo’s mother, Graciela, was the sole
provider for her family while her husband
remained at home caring for Bernardo, his nine
brothers and sisters and one grandchild. Since
Bernardo’s diagnosis, however, his mother was
not able to work and maintain her income which
took care of all the financial responsibilities
for the family. As an added impact on this
family, they resided in Victorville, which is
more than a 90 minute drive to Orange, a drive
that they had to make three times a week for
Bernardo’s treatment.
The financial and emotional impact on this
family was devastating and when they came to
Miracles for Kids for help, they were in danger
of losing their home. Miracles for Kids was able
to assist Bernardo and his family with their
mortgage and they were able to keep their home.

Molly’s Kids Grant Program at CHOC
Miracles for Kids offers individual
family members or caregivers of patients at CHOC the opportunity to apply for financial
assistance through the
Molly’s
Kids Grant Program. Grants are awarded
to assist those demonstrating difficulty meeting
financial hurdles as a result of a patient’s
course of treatment at CHOC and are available to
all families demonstrating need.
