axime was diagnosed in 2005 with Medullablastoma, a cancer of the brain and spinal cord. A patient at CHOC since November of that year, Maxime has undergone several surgeries, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and a bone marrow transplant. He is both an inpatient during treatment, as well as an outpatient at CHOC’s Cancer Clinic once per week.
Maxime’s father had been the sole provider for this family of four, allowing the mother to take care of her very ill son and other child as well. Recently, however, Maxime’s father left the family and does not provide any financial resources to assist Maxime’s mother to care for their children.
Maxime requires full-time care, and his mother has not been able to find work flexible enough to accommodate her son’s needs. Miracles for Kids was able to assist this family with a grant for her rent, giving her additional time to find employment and keep her children in their home.
