"Miracles for Kids Raises over $425,000 for Children
with Life-Threatening Illnesses"
At the Seventh Annual “Night of Miracles” Gala on September 27, 2008, Miracles for Kids raised over $425,000 for support and research for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, benefiting Children’s Hospital of Orange County and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. Over 450 people attended the “World of Miracles” event at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort & Spa, which featured silent and live auctions, a globally-inspired dinner and live entertainment.
Almost $300,000 was raised during the Live Auction led by Jim Nye, which included a “Dinner Party of the Century” for 30 guests on a 150-foot yacht with a menu from Chef Azmin Ghahreman of Sapphire Laguna that sold for $25,000; and a weeklong “Escape to a Romantic Four-Bedroom Mexican Oceanfront Villa in Punta Mita”, complete with full-time staff, that sold twice for $20,000 each.
The gala dinner menu included: Smoked Salmon with Dungeness Crab Roulade and Baby Golden Beets and Goat Cheese Salad; Seared Beef Filet with Mediterranean Faro; and Baked Barramundi Bass with Leeks and Fennel Fondue. Dessert was Chocolate Orange and Crispy Praline, and Mango-Pineapple Compote with Coconut Panna Cotta and Pistachio Macaroon. Wines were donated by Robert Mondavi Winery. Ketel One sponsored a vodka bar at the cocktail reception.
Curtis Green, Chairman of the Board for Miracles, gave welcoming remarks and emceed throughout the evening. The special guest speaker was Kimberly Cripe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
Entertainment was provided by The Boogaloo Assassins, a Latin soul and salsa band. Go Go dancers opened the event as guests proceeded into the ballroom after the cocktail reception, during which the silent auction was held. Inflated earth balls were bounced among the guests on the dance floor towards the end of the evening.
