As I Was Saying

It’s so nice to see friends helping friends. This year’s Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation’s 20th Annual Bid for the Kids black-tie gala at the Four Seasons November 9, themed Building on Miracles, honored Len Hamilton and Curtis Green of Sea Breeze Mortgage with the Spotlight Award for their extraordinary support of PCRF. Due to their friendship with John and Kim Weiner, whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer 11 years ago at age 15 months, the pair has raised over $100,000 for PCRF through its company foundation, Miracles for Kids, and an annual 40th birthday party for Green (the fourth one drew 400 people and netted $50,000).

Samantha Weiner is cancer-free today but due to the chemotherapy and radiation treatments at such an early age, she can’t talk and has trouble walking. “She has touched more people and made more of a difference in her 11 years of life than most of us will ever do,” said her father, who is PCRF President. Indeed, the fundraiser drew the largest turn-out ever – 450 guests – and netted $200,000 for PCRF. There were an amazing 400 silent auction items, and of the 14 live auction items, I’ve never seen a more generous crowd. Every item went for three or four times its stated worth.
