STARS & STRIPES RAISES $1,800,000 FOR LOCAL SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHILDREN'S CHARITIES
The Event Surpasses The Million Dollar Mark For The Fourth Straight Year In Support Of Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Big Brother/Big Sisters, Miracles for Kids and The Boy Scouts
Laguna Beach, Calif. (July 12, 2010) –
The Stars & Stripes Fishing, Golf & Music Festival announced today that the annual charity fundraiser raised more than $1,800,000 during its 2010 event, held June 25-28 at the Hilton Los Cabos Beach and Golf Resort. The local benefitting charities included Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Orange County, Miracles for Kids and The Boy Scouts of America, Los Angeles Council.
“We started as just a small fishing tournament looking to make a difference for kids,” said Dick Gebhard, who founded Stars and Stripes in 1996. “Each year it seems to get better and I still can’t believe how much fun we have each year. The generosity of our community continues to astound me!”
In 2010, the four-day event featured two days of fishing in Baja’s world-famous Sea of Cortez or golf at Club Campestre or Diamonte and nightly programs which included concerts and fireworks on the beach. This year more than 800 guests took part in the festivities with event sponsorship from Southern California-based title partners Sasco, Hollencrest Capital Management and the A. Gary Anderson Family Foundation.
The event has now raised more than $11 million over its 14 year history.

About Stars & Stripes
Started in 1996 by Dick Gebhard, then a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Stars and Stripes has grown from a new idea by a creative visionary, to one of the most significant and innovative charity fundraisers in the country.
The event has donated more than $10 million to Southern California charities over its 13-year history and in 2008 expanded its list of beneficiaries to include: Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Freedom Writer’s Foundation, Boy Scouts of Los Angeles and Operation Homefront. Additionally, Stars & Stripes has given back to communities in the Cabo San Lucas area, including contributing a fleet of new ambulances to the local Red Cross, providing metical care to children in need and aiding in the construction of a new state-of-the-art medical facility in San Ignacio.
Affectionately known as “The Feel Good Tournament,” Stars and Stripes seeks to be an effective charity fundraiser which creates lasting memories for both the organizations it assists and those participating in the event each year.
