Miracles for Kids Grant Program Doubles at CHOC

The Miracles for Kids Grant Program at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) reported a successful second year of operation, providing over $54,000 in financial aid to 67 patients and families in 2007. Total applications submitted to the Grant Program increased by 51% over 2006.

The Grant Program is an application-driven program that assists families who are struggling to make ends meet as a result of their child’s illness. Applicants are screened by CHOC Social Services representatives and if approved, submit an application for assistance directly to Miracles for Kids. The Grant Program’s minimal red tape allows funds to be distributed immediately to those in need.

Miracles for Kids has funded items such as first month’s deposit on a new apartment related to a necessary move, mortgage, rent, utilities, insurance payments, and renovation costs necessary to prepare a home environment for a child when released from the hospital. The Program has also provided assistance with funeral costs for families whose children lose their battle and have to handle unexpected costs in the face of their loss.
